Saeco Via Venezia – In Many Ways Similar To the Saeco Aroma but…?

Product Information

The Saeco Via Venezia is another compact addition to the lineup of Saeco’s compact espresso machines. In fact, the Saeco Via Venezia is very similar to the Saeco Aroma in terms of features and functionality. The Via Venezia is compact in design and is housed in a black metal housing ( not stainless steel).

Before I do a more detailed review, let me tell you the similarities you find here:

  • Simplicity, Easy-to-use, just do all your brewing and steaming with two buttons and one knob
  • Semi-automatic pump driven espresso machine (15-bars of pressure)
  • ESE pods compatible and compatible with conventional coffee grinds
  • Fully articulating Panarello frothing wand
  • Generous water reservoir
  • Cup warmer; enough to warm up 6 cups passively
  • Italian made
  • Hot water dispenser

There are a few differences, notably the stainless steel housing which is absent in this model but a feature of the Saeco Aroma and the Saeco Via Venezia also uses pressurized portafilter here only.

My Overall Thoughts About This Machine

The Espresso/Coffee

I am inclined to think that this espresso machine makes very good espresso for its features and functions. It is very easy to operate and use and the steamer although does cause me some problems, it does deliver at the end of the day. If you are not sure what is happening, indicator lights will tell you what to do. The pressurized portafilter does make wonders with the crema just like in the Saeco Aroma. The thick golden, creamy looking crema will certainly put a smile on your face and downing the espresso you’ve just made is equally delightful.

I would have to advise caution on one thing. If you want cappuccinos or latte or macchiato the pannarello steaming wand does not give you a good froth simply because it is weak just like in the Saeco Aroma. It lacks power and you might as well invest in a good milk frother. Pros will know that getting a separate milk frother is not actually the solution unless you have the funds to invest in a much better espresso machine. The fact that it is made of plastic also gives me concerns about its durability but so far it has not given me any trouble yet.

The ESE pods work great on the Saeco Via Venezia. I’ve never had any issues with it but I am a bigger fan of coffee grounds. I would recommend getting Illy or Lavazza to try on this espresso machine. Compared to the Saeco Aroma, there isn’t too much of a difference in espresso quality. I do have to mention that the grip on the pressurized portafilter here is better than in the Saeco Aroma.

Ease Of Use/Function

I can summarize this entire section in one word…

Simple

But if I moved on to the next section, wouldn’t you think I’m wasting your time reading until this paragraph? Well, I can assure you all you need to do is play around with 2 buttons, one knob, and mess around with the portafilter and steaming wand. If you have no experience handling manual or semi-automatic espresso machines, then you might need to learn a bit and get more experience before seeing things working well with the Saeco Via Venezia otherwise, handling this machine is a breeze.

There is no difference in usability and function compared to the Saeco Aroma. However, the drip tray is just shallower in the Via Venezia.

My Final Verdict

Overall, the Saeco Via Venezia is very similarin features and functions to the Saeco Aroma. I would not rate the Via Venezia worse than the Saeco Aroma. I certainly recommend getting either of this espresso machines. The weak frother is a problem but not a  MAJOR issue here. In terms of price and savings you get, the Saeco Aroma has much better discount rates. However, the Via Venezia is never a bad option either.
